Jobless Claims Rise
Initial U.S. unemployment claims rose to 474,000 for the week ending April 30, up from 431,000 the previous week, on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
The 4-week moving average was 431,250, up from 409,000 the previous week.
Massachusetts had the second-largest increase in initial claims of any state, 4,027, which the state attributed to layoffs in the transportation and service industries.
