Lawyer Initiative To Recycle Cell Phones

The Massachusetts Bar Association and the Verizon Wireless HopeLine have launched a new green initiative that also helps prevent domestic violence.

As part of its year-old MBA Lawyers Eco-Challenge, the MBA is asking attorneys to turn in their old and unused cell phones for recycling. Nearly 100 firms from across the state participate in the challenge.

Verizon's efforts to encourage people to recycle their unused cell phones have kept more than 200 tons of electronic waste and batteries out of landfills, the MBA said. Proceeds from the program benefit domestic violence awareness and prevention programs.

Lawyers with cell phones to turn in can do so at MBA offices in Boston and Springfield.
