Local Managers Named To Labor Relations Council

Gov. Deval Patrick has appointed two Central Massachusetts residents to the state's new Division of Labor Relations Advisory Council .

Peter Berry of Acton, principal of the law firm of Deutsch Williams Brooks DeRensis & Holland PC, and Mark E. D'Angelo of Framingham, director of employee relations at the state Human Resources Division, have both been named to represent management on the 13-member board.

A total of five council members will represent management. Five other members will represent labor and three will be at-large members.

The new advisory council was created along with the Department of Labor Relations last November, replacing the former Board of Conciliation and Arbitration and Labor Relations Commission.

Berry has 15 years of experience representing management in labor relations and employment litigation, and has served as general counsel to both the Boston and Cambridge Housing Authorities.

D'Angelo's responsibilities at the state Human Resources Division include directing the state's collective bargaining actions with 90 unions and bargaining entities, representing more than 62,000 public employees.

The three remaining management representatives to the council are Diane Crimmins of Belmont; John Dunlap of Jamaica Plain; and James M. Hardy of East Bridgewater. The five labor members are Amy L. Davidson of Cambridge; Ira Fader of Newton; Katherine D. Shea of Brookline; Ira Sills of Cambridge; and Jennifer A. Springer of West Roxbury. At-large members are John Cochran of Newton, who will serve as chairman of the advisory council; Thomas A. Kochan of Brookline; and Nancy E. Peace of Newburyport.

The board will serve under the umbrella of the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development and its secretary, Suzanne M. Bump. The state Director of Labor and the Director of the Division of Labor Relations will serve as ex-officio members.
