Mass CEOs: I'm ok. You, not so much

More than half of the state's CEOs say they are somewhat optimistic about their own companies but are worried about the state and national economies as a whole, according to a poll of 500 CEOs released today by the Massachusetts Economic Assessment and Analysis Project, a joint project of UMass Boston and UMass Lowell.

The CEOs appear pleased with Gov. Deval Patrick's $1 billion biotechnology plan, with 74 percent of them saying it will increase the state's economic growth. Thirty-eight percent of respondents also said they think the governor's plan will help their own businesses.

The majority of those surveyed said they have no plans to change their staff size over the coming year, with 34 percent planning to hire more workers and 4 percent expecting layoffs. Fifty-four percent said their business has grown over the past year.
