Drivers in Massachusetts this summer have experienced an extended run of stable gas prices.
AAA Northeast reported Monday that prices in the Northeast are holding steady at an average of $3.05 per gallon. That's the same average as last week and last month. It's also down 32 cents from this time last year, and motorists here are paying 11 cents per gallon less, on average, than their national counterparts.
Oklahoma and Mississippi have the the nation's lowest gas prices at $2.68 per gallon each, AAA said, and the highest average prices in the country are in California and Hawaii, at $4.55 and $4.45, respectively. Prices in Massachusetts are in the middle of the pack, 24th on the list of lowest gas prices in the nation.
The automobile organization said the regional gas supply in the Northeast is lower than at this time last year but above levels that would lead to pressure on gas pump prices that comes with supply concerns.
"Drivers are benefiting from remarkably stable gas prices before summer's last hurrah over the Labor Day holiday," Mark Schieldrop, senior spokesperson for AAA Northeast, said in a statement. "Strong domestic production and ample supply should keep prices in check through August."
