Mass. gas prices up two cents

Gasoline prices in Massachusetts are up two cents from a week prior, averaging $2.36 per gallon of regular unleaded compared to $2.34 per gallon a week ago, according to travel association AAA Northeast.

That price is 17 cents higher than a month ago, but still 21 cents cheaper than a year prior, when prices averaged $2.57 per gallon.

AAA attributed the slowly climbing costs to more stable crude oil prices throughout the month of January. That said, prices could rise faster if demand continues to increase substantially, according to AAA.

Nationally, gas prices currently average $2.40 per gallon, which is 12 cents cheaper per gallon than the average price a year ago.
