Mass. Personal Income Grew Slightly In Q1

Personal income in Massachusetts hit $333 million in the first quarter compared to $325 million in the same period a year earlier, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Nationwide, state personal income growth averaged 0.9 percent in the first quarter. In the fourth quarter of 2009, personal income growth averaged 0.5 percent.

Mississippi's personal income grew the most, about 1.6 percent. In North Dakota, personal income decreased by 2 percent.

Health care was the industry that made the largest contribution to first quarter personal income growth. The next largest contributors were administrative management, waste management and the military. The military received a 3.4 percent pay raise in the first quarter.

Per capita personal income in Massachusetts was $49,875 in 2009 compared to $50,897 the year before.
