Massachusetts exported $8.7 billion in high tech goods in 2007, down 9 percent from the $9.6 billion exported from the Bay State the previous year, according to the American Electronics Association.
The AeA said high tech exports accounted for 35 percent of the state's total exports. Massachusetts' leading exports in 2007 were industrial electronics, which accounted for $2.5 billion, the third-most in the nation. The state also ranked fourth in the nation in exports of electromedical equipment, $1.3 billion of which was exported from the state last year.
The AeA, which publishes its Trade in Cyberstates report annually, said Massachusetts is the fifth-largest U.S. exporter of high-tech goods and the sector supports more than 30,000 jobs in the state.
Nationally, high tech exports decreased by 3 percent to $214 billion in 2007. High-tech exports account for 18 percent of all American exports. High-tech imports totaled $333 billion in 2007, a 3 percent increase compared to 2006.
