Meet The Judges

The 2009 40 Under Forty issue could not have been possible without the diligent work of the three individuals, including one former winner, who served as judges. They took the time to consider the more than 130 nominations we received, and their careful attention and effort is very much appreciated by the staff here at the Worcester Business Journal.

We also appreciate the time and effort from each of the nominators. Their job is mostly behind the scenes, but their interest and support is what allows this special award program to happen.

And finally, we’d like to acknowledge all the people who have submitted nominations and served as judges over the past 10 years.

Robert Pontbriand (40 Under Forty Class of 2008) is the director of economic development and government affairs for the North Central Massachusetts Development Corp.

The development corporation is a nonprofit that focuses on economic development, as well as industrial real estate and alternative lending. It also staffs the North Central Massachusetts Economic Development Council (NCMEDC). The council is composed of the 26 communities of North Central Massachusetts.

Prior to his current post, Pontbriand served for six years as the chief of staff to the mayor of Fitchburg (2002-2008). He is also a 1995 graduate of Fitchburg High School.

His community involvement includes a stint from 2002 to 2007 as a member of the Fitchburg Civic Clean-Up Corps and as an organizer of Fitchburg Civic Days.

He is on the board of the Fitchburg Historical Society and Fitchburg State College.

Pontbriand also has a master’s degree from Harvard University.

Helen Lemoine has served as the executive director of Leadership MetroWest since 2000. She herself graduated from the organization’s Leadership Academy in 1993.

Helen serves the community in many volunteer capacities and is on the board of directors of the MetroWest YMCA, the Framingham History Center, and the Massachusetts Citizens Housing and Planning Association. She is on the steering committee of the MetroWest Nonprofit Network, the START Partnership, and the SuAsCo Watershed Community Council. She is on the board of overseers of the Danforth Museum of Art and a corporator of Middlesex Savings Bank. Helen served three elected terms on the Framingham Planning Board from 1995 to 2004.

She is a recipient of the “Athena Award,” a national award, given regionally through the MetroWest Chamber, honoring women leaders who achieve excellence in their profession, inspire women to achieve their full potential, and give back to the community in a meaningful way.

Mark P. Bilotta has served as CEO of the Colleges of Worcester Consortium Inc. since September 2006. Since his appointment as CEO, Bilotta has led a strategic and aggressive campaign to position Worcester and the region as a premier destination for undergraduate and graduate students as well as college and university faculty and staff.

Bilotta has more than 20 years of experience in the local higher education community. He most recently served as the executive assistant to the president at Assumption College, a cabinet-level position he held for eight years. At Assumption, his primary responsibilities included overseeing the college’s marketing and communication efforts, government and community relations and serving as secretary to the board of trustees. Prior to Assumption, Bilotta held administrative positions at Worcester State College and the College of the Holy Cross. He is a 1980 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and received an MBA in 1991 from Clark University.
