Monthly Online Job Demand Stalls

After a strong showing in July, online job demand dropped in August as labor demand waned in the Northeast and the South, according to the Conference Board.

There were 57,100 fewer online advertised job vacancies in August than in July.

There were 3.4 unemployed people for every advertised vacancy in July, and that ratio remained unchanged in August.

The Conference Board said despite the August dip, demand is maintaining "a modest upward trend for both the nation and most states."

Demand grew slightly in the Midwest and the West. It declined in the Northeast by 19,200 advertised vacancies and by 14,000 vacancies in the South.
