Portland, ME-based TD Banknorth, parent of Worcester-based TD Banknorth Massachusetts, has named current President BHARAT MASRANI as its CEO effective March 1, 2007. He will take over the CEO role from current Chair and CEO William Ryan, but will continue to report to Ryan in the latter’s role as chair. Ryan will continue in his role as chair until 2010, and will focus on the bank’s merger and acquisition strategy while continuing his strategic oversight of the bank, TD Banknorth announced. Masrani joined the TD Banknorth management team in September as President. He first joined TD Bank Financial Group, TD Banknorth’s parent company, in 1987 and has served in a number of international management positions in commercial, corporate banking, and global wealth management.

Clark University’s Innovation & Entrepreneurship program announced the 2006-2007 entrepreneurs-in-residence. They include JIM BILDNER, DAVID JORDAN, LAWRENCE LAPIDES, DOUGLAS MELLINGER, RONALD RANAURO and JAMIE ROTMAN. The I&E program engages distinguished leaders from varying professional backgrounds to bring real-world experiences into the classroom, to serve as mentors for students of all majors enrolled in the program. Bildner is chair of the Literary Ventures Fund and a general partner of New Horizons Partners LLC; Jordan is president and CEO of Seven Hills Foundation; Lapides is vice president of worldwide sales at Averant Inc.; Mellinger is vice-chair and founder of Foundation Source; Ranauro is CEO of Gene-IT and Rotman worked in the entertainment industry for ten years.

Worcester-based WPI has launched the Center for Advanced Abrasives Processes to promote research to help precision-grinding companies improve efficiency and gain access to technological advances. The center is located within the university’s Mechanical Engineering Department. The Center is directed by CHRISTOPHER BROWN, professor of mechanical engineering at WPI. Its advisory board includes three renowned authorities on grinding: STEPHEN MALKIN, head of UMass’ Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering; ROBERT HAHN founder of Hahn Engineering; and JOHN WEBSTER president and founder of Cool-Grind Technologies.

GEORGE ELLIS has joined Franklin-based Benjamin Franklin Bank as business development officer in the bank’s new Wellesley office. He began at Framingham Savings Bank where he worked for 16 years, most recently as senior vice president. He later went on to become a partner of Market Intelligence Services, providing consulting and REO marketing services to banks and developers. In 1993, he joined Grove Bank in Chestnut Hill, where he was senior vice president of retail lending. He founded Mortgage Advisory Group Inc. in 1997.

Shrewsbury-based ActionPact Coaching, a leadership development and executive coaching firm, has opened a new office at 621 Main Street in Shrewsbury. The

five-year-old business, previously based in Hopkinton, is owned by MARY GALLAGHER of Shrewsbury. ActionPact Coaching enables executives and managers to improve their leadership effectiveness to get better results with their current staff. Before founding ActionPact Coaching, Gallagher was a human resources executive for 20 years at both small and Fortune 500 companies. Her experience encompasses the venture capital world as well as high-tech, professional services, manufacturing, bio-tech, financial services and retail industries.

ANGELA MINARDI has been named communications director for the American Heart Association, serving Central Massachusetts, Western Massachusetts, and Vermont. Her responsibilities will include coordinating the organization’s media outreach and branding efforts in those markets. Most recently, she worked at a Boston-based public relations agency, focusing on statewide award-winning campaigns for affordable housing, heating assistance and highway safety.
