National Grid Opens Solar Site

Waltham's National Grid, which supplies much of Central Massachusetts with natural gas and electricity, has taken the wraps off a 1 megawatt solar installation in Whitinsville.
The company announced last year it would build five utility-owned solar installations in the state and the Whitinsville project is the first.
The installation is atop the roof of a National Grid facility.
Lt. Gov. Tim Murray and state Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Ian Bowles were expected to join other state, local and National Grid officials for the ribbon cutting of the installation this morning.
