Nine-Month Employment Gap No Problem

Many job seekers go to great lengths to disguise gaps on their resumes, but new survey results released by Robert Half Management Resources says that may not be necessary these days.

On average, the 150 senior executives surveyed said that a top manager can be out of work for nine months without seeing an effect on their career.

Robert Half said the current down economy has eased the stigma of months spent looking for a job.

"Most hiring managers recognize the economy has sidelined many outstanding people," Paul McDonald, executive director of the staffing company, said in a statement.

McDonald advises management candidates facing a protracted job hunt to remain active through project work, volunteering or classes, to be flexible about what sort of job to consider, think about relocating and keep networking.
