'No girls allowed' not allowed

A Superior Court judge has ruled that the 101-year-old German Social Society Frohsinn club in Mystic must start admitting women.

The order follows a ruling last year in state Appellate Court that backed the claims of Sam Corcoran, a female bed and breakfast owner who had been denied membership. Corcoran was also awarded $250 in damages.

The issue for Corcoran was that she believed the club provided networking opportunities for small business owners and she was excluded from that, according to ACLU of Connecticut director Andrew Schneider, who brought the case on Corcoran’s behalf. The club’s attorney stated the club would decide within two weeks whether to pursue further appeals.
