No good deed: DEP fines Dudley dealership

The state Department of Environmental Protection has fined the owner of Tri-State Toyota Scion Dodge in Dudley $2,000 for not "filing the required plans" before cleaning up an oil spill at the dealership.

During an audit of the dealership's cleanup activity, DEP found that oil had spilled into soil on the property, and that the dealership had cleaned it up. In fact, DEP said it was "satisfied with Tri-Peak's site remediation."

Tri-Peak Inc. of Dudley owns the dealership.

But the dealership "conducted cleanup measures at the site without first filing the required plans" with DEP.

DEP characterizes that "failure" as "violations that occurred as a result of a release of oil to soil," and it costs $2,000.

Tri-Peak agreed to pay the fine. No other violations were discovered during the DEP's audit.
