Raytheon Nets Surveillance Contract

Raytheon Co., which has operations in Marlborough, has been awarded a U.S. Air Force contract to add capabilities to its space-based air traffic management system, the company announced.

The defense contractor, the largest in Massachusetts, will incorporate surveillance and broadcast capabilities into its suite of "friend or foe" transponders. The transponders are a part of the Federal Aviation Administration's planned changes to the National Air Space System.

Raytheon's air traffic management system provides the military with cockpit situational awareness and other safety and efficiency features.

Raytheon did not disclose the value of the contract and it has not yet been posted on the federal government's contracting website.
