Science academy robot rolls to Atlanta

A team of student robot designers from the Massachusetts Academy of Mathematics and Sciences at Worcester Polytechnic Institute is on its way to Atlanta in April after winning its second consecutive Regional Chairman's Award last week.

The For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST)competition had never been won by the same team two years in a row until last week. The competition's purpose is to motivate students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
This year's regional competition was held in Manchester, N.H.

The academy team's winning robot is a six-wheeled, remote control vehicle capable of sensor-driven autonomous operation.

The academy's team will compete in a FIRST event in Atlanta in April.
