Massachusetts will distribute $2.7 million for energy efficiency upgrades in municipal buildings, including nearly $1 million for Central Massachusetts projects.
The grants are from revenue from the recent auction of carbon emissions permits under the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.
Athol will get $292,032 to replace windows, lights, a heat pump and a boiler at town buildings. North Brookfield will receive $220,465 for insulation, heating system and motor efficiency upgrades and other improvements at the junior/senior high school, water treatment plant, senior center and raw water pump station. Three schools in the Blackstone-Millville Regional School District will share $208,610 for motors, boilers and lighting.
Other funds will go to the City of Gardner, the Bay Path Regional School District and the Town of Lancaster.
