In the wake of a successful June workshop on clean energy initiatives, the Patrick administration announced that a second workshop will be held at Holyoke Community College in January.
The workshop, sponsored by the state Department of Environmental Protection and the state Department of Energy Resources, is intended for local officials who are interested in developing solar and wind power projects on former landfill sites.
It will be held at the college's Kittredge Center for Business and Workforce Development in Holyoke.
The January workshop will feature panel discussions about the attributes of good renewable energy sites, special considerations for building energy installations on closed landfills and case studies of two completed landfill projects in the Northeast.
"We want to provide municipal officials with the tools they need to assess the redevelopment potential of closed landfills, navigate the permitting process and harness state renewable energy incentives," DEP Commissioner Laurie Burt said in a press release.
Workshop registration fees are $35 for representatives of private companies and $15 for municipalities and nonprofit organizations.
