With bonuses and pay hikes out of the question for many employers this summer, there are still some ways to keep employees happy, according to a new survey by national staffing firm OfficeTeam.
The survey offered workers a choice of several non-cash benefits to help make the summer season more pleasant.
Thirty-eight percent of respondents said their favorite option was flexible schedules, and nearly as many, 32 percent, selected leaving early on Fridays.
Other options were far less popular, with activities like company picnics or potlucks at 6 percent and a more relaxed dress code at 5 percent.
OfficeTeam said flexible schedules can keep employees motivated, but schedules often need to be staggered to make sure customer service doesn't suffer.
The survey was conducted by an independent research firm and consisted of phone interviews with 457 full- or part-time office workers.
