Tri-state transit system to get $151M in federal funds

Transit systems in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey are set to receive a more than 50 percent increase in federal dollars, toalling $151.2 million.

The grants, which will be put toward security for the systems, will come from the Department of Homeland Security.

The grant is directed mostly at New York's transit systems, with some funding going to Connecticut and New Jersey as an acknowledgement that the three states' systems are connected. Last year's total was $98 million.
