UConn economists say state to lose 7,000 jobs

University of Connecticut economists say the state will lose about 7,000 jobs over the next two years, but will narrowly avoid falling into a recession.

The report was released by UConn's Connecticut Center of Economic Analysis.

The report says the nation's economy is slowing more rapidly than most economists had predicted, but the state will "skirt a formal recession" and will see growing job losses in manufacturing and modest losses in construction and government.

John Tirinzonie, an economist and director of job development for the state Department of Labor, says he's more optimistic about job creation in Connecticut than the UConn forecast.
