Wachusett Summit Enhancements Complete

MATT PILON A snow-grooming machine hit the slopes in January this year at Wachusett Mountain. A state project improving pedestrian access to the summit of the state park is now complete.

A state-funded enhancement project at Mount Wachusett, the highest peak in central and eastern Massachusetts, is complete, state officials announced.

The $8.4-million project includes a new, 80-foot-tall fire tower with a public observation deck, increased summit parking and restoration of the mountain's Harlow Outlook, a historic building located near the top of the mountain.

Construction work was done by E.H. Perkins of Hudson and Construction Dynamics of Fitchburg.
