The Wilder Companies, a Boston-based developer responsible for the forthcoming 'The Loop-Northboro', a mixed-use residential and commercial center, has purchased 200 acres in Punta Gorda, Florida.
The land will be the site of one of the largest developments in the region, and sits between Fort Myers and Sarasota on Florida's west coast. Plans call for 1.2 million square-feet of retail, residential, and office space, as well as a hotel. The Loop is currently in the permitting phase, and construction is anticipated to begin next year.
The firm currently operates a Loop site out of Orlando, and plans to open another center adjacent to that facility in 2007. The Northboro site is slated to open in 2008, and is in the permitting process.
In a recent Worcester Business Journal story (see "Still joy in mallville," July 10), local developers discussed the potential of the mixed-use combination of residential and commercial projects in Central Mass.
