Worcester County had its 17th reported coronavirus-related death Monday, as well as an uptick in cases after a few days of relatively smaller increases.

Total cases hit 1,077 in Worcester County in new data released Monday by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, a one-day rise of 99, or about 10%.

Statewide cases rose to 13,837, a one-day increase of 1,337 or 11%.

Worcester County had a relative slowdown in the number of cases before Monday. The county had 104 new cases reported Thursday, 158 on Friday, 90 on Saturday and 63 on Sunday. By Monday, the number of new cases was again increasing to nearly triple digits.

The newest Worcester County death was a man in his 70s who the Department of Public Health said had pre-existing conditions. The county's deaths have largely been older people who have conditions  making them especially susceptible to the virus.

The city of Worcester has reported 372 cases as of Monday, a one-day increase from 333 and an increase in a week from 101.

Saint Vincent Hospital and UMass Memorial Health Care had 104 total coronavirus inpatient cases and 33 who were in intensive care, according to the city. To date, their facilities have had 17 coronavirus deaths and 79 of their employees have tested positive for the virus.

The state reported further testing as efforts continue to better gauge how many people are infected. More than 76,000 tests have been conducted, the state said.

Cases continue soaring nationwide, surpassing 350,000 Monday afternoon, with nearly 10,400 deaths. International cases have passed 1.3 million, with nearly 74,000 deaths.
