Femme, a lesbian bar in Worcester’s Canal District, has been named a part of the Athletes Unlimited Women’s Sports Bar Alliance, making it one of 16 venues across the country to serve as official watch party venues for the sports organization's new women’s professional softball league.

The bar will serve as a venue to watch the Athletes Unlimited Softball League, a four-team competition that played its first games on Saturday. Watch parties will include giveaways and the chance to win prizes, according to a Facebook post from the league on Friday.

Athletes Unlimited Softball League is an effort to provide a well-financed league for women’s softball players beyond the college level, featuring a 48-game schedule in a barnstorming format to have teams play games in 10 cities across the United States, according to the league’s website. The inaugural season runs through the end of July.

AUSL announced a partnership with Major League Baseball in May, which will see MLB support the league through joint sales and marketing efforts as well as broadcast and promotional support, according to a May 29 press release from MLB.

Athletes Unlimited is a New York City-based organization, which runs professional women’s leagues for the sports of basketball, volleyball, and softball.

Femme was founded in 2023 by Danielle Spring and Julie Toupin-Spring as a place for the local LGBTQ+ community to feel welcome
