Worcester has received a $600,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that can be used to assist with the clean-up of various properties across the city, according to Paul Morano, the city's business assistance director.
The EPA also announced that it is awarding $200,000 to Marlborough to help reclaim the site of the Jenny Gasoline Service Station on East Main Street.
EPA, state and local officials announced the funding at the former Crompton Knowles Loomworks, a long vacant industrial property located at 95 Grand St.
An adjacent property at 93 Grand St. has received state clean-up funds in the past, but Morano said that 95 Grand St. will likely not be one of the properties that will benefit from the funding.
The remediation revolving fund in Worcester had been depleted to approximately $250,000 before the EPA announced the new grant, according to Kristin Garzyk, commercial and industrial development manager for Worcester.
Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly reported that Worcester would use U.S. EPA funds for clean-up efforts at 95 Grand St. The funds will likely be used at a number of properties, but not at that particular property.
