Worcester ranks seventh in the U.S. for its concentration of medical device and equipment employment, beating out the ninth-place Boston-Cambridge-Quincy area, according to the annual ranking issue of Business Facilities magazine.
Worcester came in ahead of Rochester, N.Y., and the Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis, Wisc., area.
According to the magazine, Massachusetts ranked third in the U.S. as an employer in medical devices and equipment, with 7 percent of the country's medical device employees, compared to first place California with 17 percent and second place Minnesota with about 7 percent as well.
Other rankings in the magazine include Massachusetts as third in the nation for overall biotechnology strength and second in biotechnology venture capital investments of $7.1 million, with only California biotech companies getting more funding.
Massachusetts was also ranked as the second greenest state in the country, with only Oregon beating it out for first. It also came in as the fourth most educated workforce, behind Vermont, New Hampshire and Minnesota.
Business Facilities magazine's focus is on providing information to executives who are in charge of selecting new places for their companies to open new plants and offices.
