$100K Given To Promote Local Crops

The federal government is pumping grants totaling $100,000 into Massachusetts to cultivate specialty crops, including at two locations in Central Massachusetts.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture gave the grants out to 11 organizations around the state.

Participating groups include the Massachusetts Farm Bureau Agriculture Preservation Corp., based in Ashland, which received $6,000 to encourage children to eat farm-grown food.

Wayland's Sustainable Business Networks of Greater Boston also received a $10,206 grant, which will help encourage restaurants to use locally grown crops.
