August manufacturing slows

According to the Institute for Supply Management , manufacturing growth is slowing.

The institute's August report says the manufacturing sector's growth was slightly less in August than it was in July, and dipped to its slowest pace in five months.

ISM said its new orders index and its production index are encouraging, however, and should show some growth into the fourth quarter.

Ten industries showed growth in August, according to ISM: nonmetallic mineral products; petroleum and coal products; food, beverage and tobacco products; wood products; chemical products; apparel, leather and allied products; fabricated metal products; textile mills; electrical equipment, appliances and components; and furniture and related products.
