Berkey A “Leader For Education"
Dennis Berkey, president and CEO of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, will help lead a new effort to make education a top priority for state politicians.
Berkey is on the a steering committee of a new group called Leaders For Education, a coalition of business, civic and education leaders calling for changes to state education policy. The group calls for the preservation and expansion of standardized testing and charter schools. It also supports additional state funding for education and extra pay for teachers in failing schools and high-demand subjects.
The initiative grew out of similar efforts by the Great Schools Campaign/Mass Insight, the Massachusetts High Technology Council and the Boston Foundation. Berkey is the only member of the steering committee from Worcester. Most members are from the Boston area.
