Dobelle Nabs Westfield College Gig

Evan Dobelle, president and CEO of the New England Board of Higher Education , has been named president of Westfield State College , beating out two other candidates – including one from Worcester – for the post.
Other candidates for the job were Maureen H. Powers of Worcester, former dean of students at Stanford University, and Michael Gargano of Hadley, vice chancellor for student affairs and campus life at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
While Dobelle’s appointment was approved by the college’s board of trustee yesterday, the state Board of Higher Education is expected to consider his appointment at its meeting on Friday for final approval.
Prior to joining the New England Board of Higher Ed, Dobelle was president of the University of Hawaii system, Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., the City College of San Francisco and Middlesex Community College in Massachusetts.
