Evergreen Solar Inc., which opened a new manufacturing facility in Devens in June and expects to open a second facility there in 2010, says a new $1.2 billion order will have the complex running at capacity through 2013.
The new order is from Germany-based IBC Solar AG and it brings Evergreen's contractual backlog to $3 billion with five customers. According to Evergreen, IBC is the world's largest photovoltaic solar panel distributor.
The Evergreen solar panel manufacturing plant that opened in June is running at 70 percent capacity, the company said, and will run at that level through 2010. The company said it expects to be running at full capacity in 2011. The IBC order will have the plant at full capacity through 2013, the company said. IBC makes solar panels for residential and commercial use.
Evergreen makes solar panels using proprietary, low-cost technology and manufacturing. The company is based in Marlborough.
