An entity registered to two Boston developers purchased the former Sargent Card Building in Worcester – most recently the site of The Bridge community center – for $925,000 on Friday, in another step toward the transformation of the site.

The corporation, 8-10 Upland Road, LLC, is registered to Fernando Dalfior, the owner of Dalfior Development and Brad Cangiamila, the founder and principal of Crest City Capital. Both companies are headquartered in Boston.

The sellers of the property at 300 Southbridge St. were trusts in the names of Benjamin Mantyla and Saul Talbert, according to the Worcester District Registry of Deeds. The deal was signed on June 28 and recorded on Friday.

Since 2021, Dalfior Development has been working through the process of transforming the factory, built in 1866, into a 21-unit residential development.

Prior to the development proposal, the property was known as The Bridge and used as a community center and art space by several small youth-oriented nonprofit organizations. After Dalfior approached the owner, the organizations were given two weeks to raise $1 million to purchase the building. The fundraising effort fell short at $750,000.

Plans indicate that the Miss Worcester Diner, which shares the 300 Southbridge St. lot, will remain open.

The development is one of several proposed for the neighborhood, including at  90 Lamartine St. and Lagrange Street.

If you look at the building from the perspective of the cobblestoned Sargent street, what may be envisioned is a classy collection of storefronts. Add a walkway at about the 3 foot elevation and the arches beg for doorways. This could become, on that one floor, an interesting mall of sorts. Jewelry, consignment, art works--all framed by that glorious bridge and the cobblestones. Just an idea, but this could become an alcove of SoHo interest points. One more gem in a bracelet of walkable shopping that could become a destination, if done right...
