Harrington Lands $600K For EMR Adoption

Harrington HealthCare System of Southbridge has received nearly $600,000 from the federal government for the implementation of an electronic medical records system, Harrington announced.

Harrington is among 15 hospitals and 12 health care professionals to receive the money, which is part of the Medicaid Electronic Health Record Incentive program. It has already begun the process of converting paper records to electronic medical records, Harrington President and CEO Edward H. Moore said.

"We recognized the need to provide physician order entry, or computerized provider order entry, in order to provide a safer environment for our patients," Moore said. "It's part of a broader strategic information technology plan to become electronic and integrate data between the hospital, physicians and the community."
