Jobless Rates Fall in 43 States, D.C.

Massachusetts joined 42 other states and the District of Columbia that saw a drop in their unemployment rates from October to November, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The unemployment rate for the Northeast region of the United States was the lowest among four regions the BLS surveyed. The Northeast's rate was 7.9 percent; the West had the highest, at 9.9 percent.

The Massachusetts jobless rate for November was 7 percent, down from 7.3 percent in October.

Compared with November 2010, the jobless rate fell in 45 states - including Massachusetts (8.3 percent in November 2010) - and rose in five others and the District of Columbia.

The national unemployment rate is 8.6 percent.
