Movers & Shakers for April 26, 2021

Community Harvest Project, a farming nonprofit with locations in Grafton and Harvard, has appointed its 2021 board of directors. Members include: President DAVID GUARINO of the Providence law firm McLaughlinQuinn; Vice President EVAN SODERSTROM, a physician advisor and partner at Clinical Financial Resources of New Bedford; Second Vice President KRISTIN BAFARO, a career navigator at the Worcester Adult Learning Center; KEN CRATER, the chairman at Control Technology Corp. in Hopkinton; MARYBETH CAMPBELL, a high school special education liaison for Harvard Public Schools; DAVID NICHOLSON, the general manager at Endeavor Tool Co. in West Boylston; ROBERT PAULSEN, a senior vice president and regional commercial banking manager at Middlesex Savings Bank in Natick; ROBB AHLQUIST, the co-owner of the Worcester Restaurant Group; LAURA COUGHLIN, a vice president at Change Healthcare in Newton; DAVID SMALL, who is retired from Stop & Shop Supermarket Co.; and DAVID WHITE, the chairman and treasurer of R.H. SCARAFONI

CHRISTINE SCARAFONI of Sutton and E.J. LANDRY III of Burlington have been appointed co-chairs of the Nichols College board of advisors, a volunteer board set up by the Dudley school’s board of trustees. Scarafoni is the chief human resources officer at KLR, a public accounting firm in Boston, and an adjunct professor at Nichols and Suffolk University. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and an MBA from Nichols. Landry, who retired in 2020 after a career in auditing and consulting, most recently worked with life sciences companies for the international consulting firm Deloitte. Landry has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Nichols. 

MORALES

PETER MORALES of Sturbridge has joined Country Bank’s innovation and technology division as a senior vice president. Morales has held various positions in technical leadership, most recently as vice president and chief information officer for an international educational organization, as well as with New York University, the New York Stock Exchange and the American Stock Exchange. He teaches two master’s program courses at New York University. 

GILMORE

ASHLEY GILMORE and STEVEN GUNTHARP have been named assistant project managers and ANDREW KANTORSKI a project manager at Colantonio Inc., a Holliston construction firm. Gilmore has a bachelor’s degree in interior design from the New England Institute of Art in Brookline, with eight years of industry experience as an assistant project manager and project coordinator. Guntharp has a master’s degree in construction management from the New England Institute of Technology in Rhode Island and a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Salve Regina University in Rhode Island. He has eight years of experience as an assistant project manager, framer and drywaller. Kantorski has 11 years of experience, including multi-unit residential buildings, offices, medical buildings and college campuses. He has a bachelor’s degree in construction management from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. 

BARTHOLOMEW

Worcester financial services firm Bartholomew & Co. has won accolades from Forbes and Boston magazine. THOMAS BARTHOLOMEW, the firm’s president and CEO, has been named to Forbes’ list of best-in-state wealth advisors for 2021. Forbes bases its ranking on an algorithm of qualitative criteria, mostly gained through telephone and in-person due diligence interviews, and quantitative data. Four of the firm’s five advisors have also been named 2021 Five Star Wealth Managers by Boston magazine as determined by 10 criteria. In addition to Bartholomew, they are DORY HUARD, JOSHUA PAUL and MARCIA SULLIVAN

AISIKU

The Worcester State Foundation board has appointed four new members: SAMANTHA SANTIAGO, a 1994 graduate; OMOZUANVBO AISIKU, a 1998 master’s graduate and 2005 Ph.D. graduate; JOHN BUCKLEY III, a 1994 graduate; and JACOB LABONTE, a student representative scheduled to graduate in 2022. Santiago is a vice president and head of claims strategy and automation at Farmers Insurance in Los Angeles, where she has worked for almost three years. Aisiku is associate director of business development for the eastern U.S. and Canada at Porsolt, a French pre-clinical pharmacology firm. Buckey is a partner at AAFCPAs in Westborough, and its educational services division leader. Labonte is the chair of Worcester State’s Student Senate and a member of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honors Society. 

HOLMES

KEVIN HOLMES, the president and CEO of Advantage Truck Group in Shrewsbury, has received the 2020 Successful Dealer of the Year Award by the industry publication Trucks, Parts, Service. The publication honored Holmes and Advantage Truck Group for their commitment to customer service, community involvement and outreach, and business success, and efforts made during the COVID-19 crisis.

Cornerstone Bank of Southbridge has promoted KERRI LEE of Holland to assistant vice president and loan production manager, and KATELYN KRIKORIAN of Southbridge to assistant vice president and operations manager. Both have more than 15 years of experience in banking and lending. Lee joined one of Cornerstone’s predecessor banks, Southbridge Savings Bank, in 2013 as a senior loan processor. Krikorian started as an operations clerk in 2004. 

MANIGAULT III

WARREN MANIGAULT III has been appointed as Rockland Trust’s vice president and regional manager for the Worcester market in the bank’s retail banking division. He is responsible for developing and overseeing the Worcester area branches, which includes a new office at Lakeway Commons in Shrewsbury. Manigault has 24 years of sales and business development experience, the last 10 in the Worcester County banking industry. He was most recently an assistant vice president and senior branch manager for Webster Five Cents Savings Bank. He has a bachelor’s degree in social and health services from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island and an MBA from Fitchburg State University. 

FAREED

UMass Memorial Medical Group has added five new doctors to its staff: Dr. TIMOTHY BOARDMAN, an emergency medicine physician, Dr. SHAHIDA FAREED, a family medicine physician, Dr. DANIEL HAN, a radiation oncologist, Dr. CASSANDRA MACKEY, an emergency medicine physician, and Dr. LIANNA VALDES, an ophthalmologist. Boardman earned his medical degree from UMass Medical School in Worcester, completed a residency at Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital, and a fellowship at UMass Medical School. He specializes in emergency medicine and emergency medical services at UMass Memorial Medical Center’s University and Memorial campuses, Marlborough Hospital, and HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital’s Leominster Campus. Fareed earned her medical degree from Adler University in Chicago and completed a fellowship at the Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania. She specializes in behavioral health in family medicine at HealthAlliance Fitchburg Family Practice. Han earned his medical degree from and completed his residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He specializes in radiation oncology at UMass Memorial Medical Center’s University Campus, UMass Memorial – Marlborough Hospital, Norwood Hospital and St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston. Mackey earned her medical degree from New York Medical College, completed her residency at the University of Texas – Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas and completed a fellowship at Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in emergency medicine at UMass Memorial Medical Center’s University and Memorial campuses, Marlborough Hospital, and HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital’s Leominster Campus. Valdes earned her medical degree from Columbia University in New York, completed her residency at SUNY – Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, and completed a fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. She practices at UMass Memorial Medical Center’s Hahnemann Campus in Worcester and UMass Memorial at Northborough Crossing. 

DENMARK

EDWARD DENMARK, the Harvard police chief, has been named to the Rollstone Bank & Trust board of directors. Denmark has been Harvard’s police chief for 17 years, following a tenure as Sterling police chief. He has a bachelor’s degree in legal studies from UMass Amherst, a master’s degree in criminal justice from Fitchburg State University and a doctorate in leadership studies from Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire. 

KARMELEK

Avidia Bank in Hudson has promoted two employees to executive vice president: DON FROST, who oversees residential lending, retail banking and investments; and NICK KARMELEK, who oversees enterprise and vendor risk, IT security and project management. Frost has 26 years of experience in mortgage banking and has worked at Avidia for 10 years. He has a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from Bentley University in Waltham. Karmelek has more than 15 years of experience in banking risk management, and previously worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, where he led teams and supervised large and complex bank organizations. He has a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from Northeastern University in Boston and a masters of business administration degree from Bentley University in Waltham.

MAPFRE Insurance has named GARY SJOLIN as vice president for business development, leading the Webster company’s business development strategies in Massachusetts. Sjolin has 30 years of industry experience and previously held senior business development roles at companies including Arbella Insurance, headquartered in Quincy, AIG, headquartered in New York City, and Plymouth Rock Assurance, headquartered in New Jersey.
