Northeast weathers foreclosure storm

Foreclosures and foreclosure actions nationwide shot up 23 percent in the first three months of the year to 253,803, although Northeastern states appeared to weather the loan industry storm better than the rest of the nation, according to Foreclosures.com. Analysts said the broader economic base of the region, which includes New England, N.Y., N.J. and Penn., sheltered the Northeast from the significant price appreciation. Widespread use of creative financing schemes was less common here than other areas. Still, pre-foreclosure filings in the region jumped 8 percent for the quarter to 25,919, from the 23,939 filed in the last three months of 2006.
