Property owner fined for 2006 chem. spill

The Boston-based owner of a Quinsigamond Village industrial warehouse has been hit with a $6,400 fine by the state Department of Environmental Protection for failing to tell the DEP about a chemical spill.

Liberty MA Portfolio Fee LLC, the owner of an industrial warehouse on 32 acres at 150 Blackstone River Road in Worcester discovered vinyl chloride in the groundwater at its facility during the cleanup of an oil spill in April 2006, according to the DEP.

The chemical spill was enough to require notification of the DEP, but the company did not do so "in a timely manner after it discovered the substance."

The DEP recently finalized a consent order requiring the company to pay a $6,400 fine and to submit environmental reports to DEP.
