RXi Begins Public Trading

RXi Pharmaceuticals , the Worcester company founded by Craig Mello, the 2006 Nobel Prize winner in medicine, began public trading at $6.01 per share this morning.

According to Google Finance, the company, known as RXII to the stock market, saw its share price climb to as much as $23.95 per share before settling at $19.90 as of 11 a.m.

RXi is developing RNAi-based treatments for currently untreatable or inadequately treated diseases.
RNAi silences genes before they're able to create proteins. Using RNAi to develop drugs could allow RXi to target specific genes in order to turn off their ability to develop diseases.
