The International Stem Cell Registry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School was officially launched today.
It provides an online resource of information on human embryonic stem cells to the academic and private sector research community that is focused on biomedical work.
The database is a work in progress, but the site will have information on all stem cell lines, where they were cultured, how to obtain the cells and any studies that have been done using each cell line.
It will also include studies that ended in negative results, which are not published in scientific and research journals.
It is funded through the $1 billion Life Sciences Bill passed earlier this year, which the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center administers. The school will receive $8.2 million to establish the registry and accompanying Massachusetts Stem Cell Bank, which is slated to open this fall.
The site is run out of the medical school's Shrewsbury campus along with the Massachusetts Stem Cell Bank.
