UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester and the Lahey Clinic in Burlington have partnered to offer joint services to transplant patients, creating more transplant options for patients of both hospitals.
UMass Memorial patients suffering from liver disease will now have access to the Lahey Clinic's Liver Transplantation program, the largest of its kind in New England. The Lahey Clinic offers live donor transplants, a service not offered by UMass. Lahey Clinic patients will likewise benefit from UMass Memorial's pancreas transplantation program. Both centers offer live donor kidney transplant, as well as cadeveric kidney and liver transplants.
While physicians from both hospitals will assist in the operations, UMass Memorial and Lahey Clinic will continue to function as independent transplant centers, caring for their own patients throughout all phases of transplantation.
A governance board is currently being created.
