UNH Gets Gas, Thanks To R.H. White

Auburn-based R.H. White Construction Co. is building a $15 million pipeline to transport methane gas to the University of New Hampshire's Durham campus from a nearby landfill.

The company said the 12.7-mile pipeline will allow the campus to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and stabilize its energy costs. The landfill gas is expected to provide 80 to 85 percent of the fuel for UNH's cogeneration plant, replacing much of the natural gas that the university currently uses.

UNH is scheduled to start using the new fuel source in late 2008.
