U.S. News: Three Central Mass. firms are best public companies to work for

Three Central Massachusetts healthcare companies have been named among the best public companies to work for by the U.S. News & World Report, representing the only firms in the region to be selected for the publication’s annual list.

The Hanover Insurance Group in Worcester along with Boston Scientific, a Marlborough-based medical device manufacturer, and Definitive Healthcare, a Framingham-based health data and technology firm, all were named amongst 299 publicly traded companies U.S. News’ 2025-2026 Best Companies to Work For index.

A total of 2,119 companies were assessed on the list via six key metrics on a scale from one to five, including: quality of pay and benefits, work-life balance and flexibility, job and company stability, physical and psychological comfort, belongingness and esteem, and career opportunities and professional development, according to the methodology posted on U.S. News’ website. 

The Hanover received three five-rated metrics on its company scorecard, the most of the three Central Massachusetts companies. The insurance provider scored a five in work-life balance, stability, and belongingness, and scored a three in the other three categories. 

Furthermore, the company was recognized as a top company to work for that supports family caregiving. 

As of May 27, The Hanover had generated $6.24 billion in annual revenue with 4,900 employees, according to its U.S. News company profile.

This recognition motivates us to continue to strive for excellence in all we do."

Boston Scientific scored a five for stability, a four for quality of pay, work-life balance, belongingness, and professional development, and a two for comfort. The company was also recognized as a top internship provider.

With 53,000 employees, the medical device manufacturer has generated $17.55 billion in annual revenue, according to its profile.

Definitive Healthcare scored a five for work-life balance and comfort while scoring a three on the four other analyzed metrics.

Founded in 2011 and the youngest company of the three to make U.S. News’ list, Definitive Healthcare reports annual revenue of $252.2 billion and employs 782 workers.

"Prospective and current employees understand the significant impact their employer has on their quality of life," Carly Chase, U.S. News vice president for careers, said in a May 29 press release. "Whether a new grad seeking a company to launch their career, an established professional looking for a change or an HR professional researching the strengths of their company and others, Best Companies to Work For provides a central space to see which companies U.S. News identified as meeting their employees' needs best."
