Web site helps buck real estate trend

Amid ever-plummeting residential sales and prices, Shelton, Conn.-based real estate brokerage William Raveis Real Estate Mortgage & Insurance said the company's year-to-date closed sales numbers in Massachusetts were up 56 percent through August compared to 2006.
Over the same period, the Multiple Listing Service showed the number of closed sales in Massachusetts down more than 2 percent.
Raveis said the sales increase was driven by the company's web site, which saw a 29 percent increase in visits this year, and a 33 percent increase in the number of hits the site receieved, reaching 550 million, the company said.
Raveis is the largest privately held, family-owned real estate firm in New England.
