Several economic development measures are currently pending on Beacon Hill, including one that could impact small business lending in the Bay State, according to Greg Bialecki, secretary of the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development.
Bialecki spoke on a broad range of business issues at a luncheon held in Sturbridge on Monday that was organized by the Central Mass South Chamber of Commerce.
One provision of pending economic development legislation would create the Massachusetts Growth Capital Corp., according to the Bialecki. The new entity would "consolidate and broaden the scope" of existing small business lending entities run by the state and would "lend to all kinds of small business," he said.
Another proposal before the legislature calls for the creation of the Mass. Marketing Partnership, which would bring all state marketing - including marketing for tourism, business development and international trade - under one umbrella to eliminate duplication and make sure there is consistent messaging.
The current legislative session runs until July 31.
