DEP Clubs Course Over Water Violations

Violations of state drinking water regulations have landed $12,500 in penalties on the green at the Butternut Farms Golf Club in Stow.

According to the state Department of Environmental Protection , the club's owner, Robert Page III LLC, added a function hall to the club, increasing its water usage beyond its permitted limit. DEP found that and other violations, including a water treatment system that had been installed without DEP approval, during a May 2006 inspection.

In a recently finalized consent order, the club's owner agreed to pay a $12,500 fine and correct all violations. The club will also construct a new well to bring itself into compliance with usage limits.
