UMass to cease free COVID testing at 100 Front St. on March 31

PHOTO/EDD COTE UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester set up a coronavirus testing tent at its University Campus early in the pandemic.

As demand for COVID-19 testing continues to drop, UMass Memorial Health announced that free testing at 100 Front Street will cease on March 31.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is closing all Stop the Spread testing sites, according to a Feb. 24 announcement from UMass Memorial. COVID-19 and flu vaccines will also be unavailable at the site.

The state closed a majority of Stop the Spread testing sites last year, leaving Worcester as one of 11 that remained open. All will be closed after March 31.

SItes will close roughly a month before the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is set to let the federal Public Health Emergency declaration expire on May 11.
